Weight has always been a struggle for me. I have yoyo dieted my entire life since I was twelve. I have tried the Atkins, Jenny Craig, cleansers, intermittent fasting, and so on. However, I never thought about an Instagram diet. I knew what I had to do, what I should eat, but I couldn’t seem to make myself do it. I lacked serious motivation. I would start and then stop or have one bad day and give up. This is where Instagram pushed me and kept me on the track to success.
- Making my goal public
One aspect of the lack of motivation was my lack of accountability. I never publicized my goals. I would just say them like a mantra as I showered in the morning or whisper them like a prayer before I went to sleep. No one else ever heard them. There was no one to ask me how it was going. That was purposeful. It is embarrassing when you mess up if everyone around you knows it.
When I put my goals on Instagram and made my intentions known to a large community, I knew I had to do it now. The pressure was on. There were no more excuses and no more “I’ll start tomorrow”. I had to start immediately.
- Sharing Progress
Along the way, it is easy to let a pound or two go. Unfortunately, that pound turns into ten quickly. For this reason, I made sure I showed my progress and frequently updated photos. This made sure that if I was up, everyone knew and I had to lose the weight again. I was also allowed to celebrate publicly which was so enjoyable I wanted to lose more and more.
There are two main reasons for change avoidance of pain or pursuit of happiness. Sharing the good and bad on Instagram met both of those reasons and kept me going even when it got tough.
- Looking at Inspiration
In addition to my own progress and goals, I love looking at others’ journeys. This inspiration gave me ideas and made me feel like it was possible. If someone else could lose 150 pounds, I could surely lose 80!
- Positive feedback
There are some negative people in every bunch, but the feedback was overwhelmingly positive from supportive people going through the same problem. This made me feel like I was not alone. There was an entire Instagram world of people that felt the same way I do. I couldn’t let them down!
- Making it my career
Now I am 80 pounds lighter and much happier. I use my success to motivate others and give back. I have created my own business helping to train others and sell products to make their journey a little easier. Instagram has impacted my health, but also my wallet. In the beginning, it was a little tough, but I was able to buy real Instagram followers to boost my ratings and help get a name for myself.
In many ways, Instagram saved my life.
