Getting the Perfect Shot

Instagram is all about sharing – sharing ideas, experiences, and knowledge through the perfect photo.  Pictures can capture a feeling, a moment, an idea, or even a movement.  Journalists and newspapers have been using pictures to tell stories and now it is your turn.  When starting out, taking the right picture to capture a message can be a daunting task.

The following are some tips and tricks to take the picture that tells your story and builds the real likes and followers on Instagram that will get you noticed.

  1. Be a planner

Professionals make photography seem so easy – as if they stumble upon the moment and happen to have a camera.  However, most photos are planned ahead.  Knowing where to go and when to get the perfect lighting may take some time to learn.  For instance, that perfect sunset picture on the beach that screams freedom and relaxation for the travel Instagram page may seem simple to take.  Sunset photos, in reality, are difficult to capture because of the shorter time frame that a photographer has since the light is fading.

  1. The world of color

The world is filled with bright color and stark contrast between light and dark.  Color captures the viewer’s attention and peaks interest.  Colors have meaning and convey their own message.  For instance, some believe that red is a powerful color, blue is calm and cool, green promotes health and the environment, gold is elegant while orange is energetic.  Use of color can make a follower hit the like button much more than a dreary, bland picture.

  1. Get close

While most can see something from far away, it takes a little bravery and a lot of dedication to get close up.  The zoom option may be enough, but the best pictures are personal with a shot right in front of the subject.  This is especially true when taking pictures of animals and plants, like flowers.

  1. What’s the right angle?

Different angles can show a different perspective than others around.  This will separate your picture from the rest.  It may take some time and creativity, but try another way of looking at the world around you.

  1. Quality over quantity

While it may be tempting to take as many pictures as possible to have a ton of content, it can backfire if that content is not valuable.  With so many users and professionals using Instagram, quantity is not as important as quality when looking at getting real followers and maintaining a strong social media presence.

  1. Play around

The name of the Instagram game is creativity.  Have fun with pictures and try different new apps to help change the filter or add effects to photos.  People want to see something they haven’t yet and the only way to do that is to take risks and play with ideas.

Instagram is not only about getting real likes and followers, either by buying them or building them organically, but also about building a portfolio of beautiful photos that capture a message or story told from your eyes.  Every person has a unique perspective, so what’s yours?
